The Senior Specialist ServiceNow Developer is responsible for configuration, administration, development, and maintenance of the ServiceNow platform and supported integrations. This includes collaboration with stakeholders to develop complex workflows, perform needs assessments, designing and implementing solutions, and driving organizational digital change. The person will perform system configurations, building catalog and workspace user experiences as well as automated process flows with advanced complexity and scripting. The Senior Specialist ServiceNow Developer will be well versed in ITSM, HRSM and App Engine on Service Now and build and customize the Service Portal or Employee Center.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement ServiceNow platform capabilities specifically the ITAM, ITSM, ITOM, HRSM and SecOps modules including form configuration, workflow administration, reporting, data imports, custom scripting and third-party software integrations.
  • Work with the customer to ensure the configuration of ServiceNow meets their overall requirements including drafting technically focused user stories, acceptance criteria, testing strategy, and knowledge transfer.
  • Implement and utilize tools to regularly monitor and analyse system performance, perform regular maintenance, and proactively take corrective actions as necessary to ensure platform reliability.
  • Use a systematic approach and a wide breadth and depth of ServiceNow platform knowledge to troubleshoot, identify, and solve technical issues.
  • Respond to a broad range of service requests by engaging with end users to investigate, diagnose, and resolve their concerns.
  • Create and maintain catalogue and workspace user experiences and automated process flows of moderate complexity, which may include limited scripting, in accordance with established standards and best practices.
  • Implement and maintain supported integrations with other vendor platforms.
  • Design and write technical and customer accessible documentation and lead the delivery of other relevant training.
  • Formally teach and mentor other staff in ServiceNow use and functionality.
  • Proactively maintain technical and functional knowledge applicable to the ServiceNow platform.
  • Oversee and deliver strategic and operational projects for specific platform capabilities.
  • Identify opportunities for new/improved integrations, and guide the design process along with SMEs, business process analysts, and stakeholders
  • Facilitate governance processes necessary to successfully operate the processes and modules implemented in the platform.
  • Work on and collaborate with cross-functional teams to support and maintain solutions in an enterprise-wide production system using agile principles and methodologies.
  • Collaborate with business users to understand and translate business requirements into functional and non-functional technical requirements with accurate acceptance criteria that are ready to move to development.
  • Participate in a 24x7x365 on-call rotation to support the platform, promptly responding to incident notifications, and escalating them when necessary.


To qualify, you must have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Must have 3-5 years of experience as a ServiceNow Developer and overall 8-10 years within Software Development or Inormation Technology.
  • Demonstrated success analysing, investigating, and resolving technical issues in critical systems.
  • Certification in ServiceNow. Certified System Administrator and / or developer – ServiceNow Micro-Certifications for platform features.
  • Experience performing ServiceNow technical configuration (e.g., database table structure, import sets, transform maps, update sets, business rules, UI policies, UI actions, data policies, notifications, and ACLs).
  • Experience building catalogue, complex workflows and/or workplace user experiences.
  • Experience applying custom and complex workflow and automation using Service Now in an organization.
  • Experience with developing ServiceNow software solutions using JavaScript, Jelly, one or more Web Services, XML, HTML and CSS.
  • Experience customizing Employee Centre Pro and developing custom portal web pages in ServiceNow.
  • Worked with and understands the value in creating repeatable processes to design development, test, staging and production environments that are reliable with high availability.
  • High level of competency writing and maintaining JavaScript and experience with Flow Designer and IntegrationHub recommended.
  • Experience with the development and maintenance of integrations using various protocols such as REST, SOAP, LDAP, JDBC.
  • Experience implementing data transformations both in a file-based context and using scripting.
  • Understanding of network architecture and the security implications on integrations.
  • Create and maintain scoped applications using App Engine.
  • Ability to synthesize feedback and go beyond specific improvement suggestions.

Ideally, you will also have:

  • Certification in ServiceNow Certified Implementation Specialist or related certifications
  • Certification in Professional Scrum Master, Scrum Developer, or related certifications
  • ITIL Foundation level or higher
